Healthy Eating in an Unhealthy World
58FOOD!
Boy, do I love to eat. I love everything about food - the way it smells, the way it tastes, the way it makes me feel. I love the social aspect of it. If someone is hurting, you give them a treat - family comes over, let's eat! It's a birthday, a wedding, funeral, meeting, holiday, get-together, haven't seen ya - what do we do? Eat!
I'm a smart woman. I know it. I tested out at 141 on standard IQ tests - "close to genius" - well - where's that genius when I need him?
I'm still trying to figure out why I can't figure out my weight. I've tried every diet, live-it, "life-style" change... I've eaten with chopsticks, put my fork down between every bite, used smaller plates, eliminated carbs, eliminated sugar, eliminated fat...I've lived on air! I swear! But still, I'm womanly...
I'm back at Weight Watchers again. "The Program works if you work the Program." I'm working out this time too. One of the great things I've noticed is that if you write down everything you put in your mouth - you won't put it in your mouth. It's like an affirmation of gluttony. "Today I ate 6 raisins" of course if I had eaten 6 raisins - I would be patting myself on the back. Writing down "today I ate 6 donuts" - now that is hard to do. It's been 5 days (sounds like I'm doing a sobriety pledge) and I'm feeling much better.
You know, people who are trying to kick alcohol, cigarettes, drugs - they have it a little easier. You don't need these things on a daily basis. Food - you have to take it daily and at regular intervals. I wish I could get addicted to water. "Hi, I'm Barb and I'm addicted to water" - Hi Barb... Of course I've been told that drinking water and increasing your intake triggers a "natural thirst." YIkes, what's an unnatural thirst? Blood, I guess. Don't want that!
I'm going to try and keep you all up to date on my progress, link up a few recipes and just try and stay focused. After all, I'm a smart woman...

Dieting seems to become a constant endeavor for many.
There is a lot of new thought on other factors affecting our weight. If our bodies are overloaded with synthetic chemicals the body is not able to expel them fast enough. It seems that the body performs a fascinating stop gap solution by encasing the toxins in fat cells, codes them as "not for energy usage" so they won't be burned by everyday exercise and stores them till the body is able to expel them. The sad part is that we don't usually give the body a break so that it can expel these build ups.
Like a lot of theories this one has not been studied enough for many in the mainstream medical and nutrition industry to accept as proven so you have to use your own judgement. It looks mighty compelling to me.
To help eliminate this problem you have to look at all products you use, personal care, cleaning supplies, air fresheners, clothes detergents, bug sprays, sun screens and even the food you eat. It is scary when you take one day and look at all the synthetic chemicals which we stay in contact with day in and day out.
Good luck
